The Women In Trucking Association, Truckstop.com and Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) announced during the TIA annual conference Angela Eliacostas, president and founder of AGT Global Logistics, as the winner of the seventh annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award.

“Angela Eliacostas has become more than just a member of Women In Trucking Association, she has become a mentor, a speaker and a writer who shares her passion for our mission every chance she gets,” said Ellen Voie, president and CEO of WIT. “We love to honor those who help support and encourage women in the industry.”
Eliacostas has more than thirty years of transportation management experience. In this time, she has built a business based on honesty, integrity, and diligence. She has developed a proprietary three-tier carrier-rating system designed to reward drivers and companies who perform at the highest standards. She has also carved out a niche for herself in the energy and utilities sector as a 3PL with 24/7/365 access and service. Her employees are not only experienced with trucking – several holding commercial driver’s licenses, many also are HazMat certified.
“Winning this award is such an honor. I hope to represent Women In Trucking and this award by sharing encouragement and advice. To all of the women steering their ways in the world of transportation and logistics – remember, achievement isn’t reaching a final destination. Achievement doesn’t stop, it means realizing your dreams and then striving to do more. There will be frustrating times. Always keep pushing. Believe in what you’re doing, whether in a male-dominated industry or otherwise. Have faith in yourself and your abilities. Be confident. Then, you will succeed,” said Eliacostas.
The personalized, small-business care, coupled with advanced technology, sets her company apart from not only other tier-II 3PLs but also from the “big guys.” Angela notes that sometimes her Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises status is why AGT received an RFP, but getting the job often takes more than non-MWBE companies offer. Keeping the account requires that her company perform better in all aspects. Fortunately, once these accounts are won – they stay.
In-house, Eliacostas has established a committed team of team members. Sixty percent of her employees are women, and many have been with her since before she started AGT in 2005. In 2019, she brought to life a new internship program that trains people who show promise, determination, and the ability to learn even if they do not have experience in third-party logistics. This has provided an opportunity for people who have driven in the past, and it also brings new people into the transportation world from other backgrounds.

AGT receives Hometown Recognition of Top Business for Women to Work Award
AGT Global Logistics is named a 2020 Top Business for Women to Work in Transportation by the Women In Trucking Association
The news was shared in the Oct. 14, 2020 edition of the Daily Herald, our hometown paper.
AGT Global Logistics in Glen Ellyn is named “Top Company for Women to Work For In Transportation” by the Women In Trucking Association – for the second consecutive year.
More than 13,000 votes were cast to identify the companies named to the list. The list comprises a diverse range of business sectors in the commercial freight transportation marketplace, including motor carriers, third-party logistics companies, and original equipment manufacturers.
According to Brian Everett, publisher of Redefining the Road — the WIT official news source, “There are several key features that distinguish companies recognized on this list including: corporate cultures that foster gender diversity; competitive compensation and benefits; flexible hours and work requirements; professional development opportunities; and career advancement opportunities.”

Daily Herald Business Ledger Recognizes Angela Eliacostas
GLEN ELLYN — AGT Global Logistics is one of 12 companies named 2020 “Top Woman-Owned Businesses in Transportation” by Redefining the Road magazine, the official magazine of the Women In Trucking Association.
This is the second consecutive year AGT Global received the honor. According to WIT President and CEO Ellen Voie,”(The award) was created to recognize women in leadership and encourage more women to become proactive leaders in their organizations.”
Criteria for the list include majority ownership by a woman, financial stability and growth, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit. Winners are chosen based on business success and accomplishments — including those related to supporting workplace gender diversity.

This is the third year the Editors of the Women In Trucking Association – Redefining the Road magazine selected women who are moving the transportation world forward. The women are selected based on their career accomplishments over the past 12-18 months and their promotion of gender diversity in the field.

Those listed on the 2020 Top Women to Watch in Transportation work for motor carriers, third-party logistics companies, equipment manufacturers, retailer truck dealers, professional services companies, technology innovators, and private fleets. Their job functions include corporate management (32 percent), operations/safety (32 percent), sales/marketing (9 percent), human resources/talent management (6 percent), customer service (5 percent), engineering/product development (5 percent), finance (6 percent), and professional drivers (5 percent).

Information on the Expanded Emergency Declaration providing exemption to parts of the FMCSR
Expanded Emergency Declaration – https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/emergency/expanded-emergency-declaration-under-49-cfr-ss-39023-no-2020-002
The President has declared a nationwide emergency and provides an exemption to parts 390-399 of the FMCSR to allow for immediate transportation of essential supplies, equipment and people… for “motor carriers and drivers engaged in the transport of essential supplies, equipment, and persons.”
This includes:
1. Medical Supplies and Equipment (testing, diagnostic, and treatment of COVID-19)
2. Supplies and Equipment for community safety, sanitation, and prevention of transmission (masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, soap, and disinfectants)
3. Food, paper products, and other groceries
4. Immediate precursor raw materials (paper, plastic, and alcohol – required and used for producing items in 1, 2, and 3)
5. Fuel
6. Equipment, Supplies, and People to establish temporary housing, quarantine and isolation facilities
7. People designated by the FED, State, or local authorities for medial, isolation or quarantine purposes
8. People necessary to provide other EMS (to keep the population safe) –
****Direct assistance does not include routine commercial drivers, including mixed loads just made to obtain the benefits of this emergency declaration ****
Parts 390-399 must be followed when operating in non-direct assistance circumstances. The only exception is when returning an empty direct assistance run. The driver may return empty without complying with parts 390-399.
If a driver informs the motor carrier that they need immediate rest – the driver may be permitted at least 10 consecutive hours off duty before being required to return to the terminal or normal reporting location. Once a drive has returned, they must be relieved of all duties and responsibilities and receive a minimum of 10 hours off duty in transporting property and 8 hours if transporting passengers.
Carriers with drivers subject to out-of-service orders are not eligible for the relief granted.
This emergency declaration is in effect immediately and will last until the termination of the emergency or April 12, 2020 (whichever occurs sooner).

For the past 11 months, Angela Eliacostas served as the Women In Trucking Association’s – Influential Woman of the Year. She attended conferences on behalf of the organization. She joined Ellen Voie, President of the Women In Trucking Association at the largely attended hiring conference – Indeed Interactive in May where they discussed hiring for trucking and logistics.
The WIT speaking engagements concluding last week at the 2019 Women In Trucking Association’s Accelerate! Conference. Here, Angela shared her story with the more than 1100 conference-goers. She lead roundtable discussions on leadership, and facilitated the Influential Woman of the Year Award presentation – passing over the title of Influential Woman of the Year to Ruth Lopez of Ryder System Inc.

Throughout the year, Angela reached out to WIT Members of the Month and also through the monthly “Ask Angela” in WIT E-News. Here Angela addressed topics such as “How do I get Started in Trucking?” to “How Important is Experience When Searching for Jobs in Trucking and Logistics?” and “Combatting Negative Stereotypes” to “How to Manage a Family/Work Life Balance.”
As Angela reflected on her experience she notes, “This opportunity allowed me to meet many amazing people. I was able to travel and speak at conferences – helping promote diversity in the industry. I met people who have dedicated their lives to trucking and those just thinking about starting a career. It’s an exciting time to join a fleet, purchase your first rig or venture off – starting a trucking or 3PL company of your own. The opportunities are out there and associations like WIT are here to answer questions and provide support and connections.
It will be bittersweet handing over the title of Influential Woman of the Year in October at the Accelerate! conference in Dallas. It will be great to pass the torch to another very-deserved woman. But, I will miss the continuous interactions I’ve had with Ellen and the entire staff. I, along with my company AGT Global Logistics, will remain a member, supporter, and sponsor of WIT. I look forward to promoting the Association’s mission and messages well into the future.
